Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream

The Egyptian Magic all purpose skin cream is undoubtedly one of the most hyped skin creams in the beauty market. Sadly, more often than not, whenever I excitedly try any  such intensively publicised products, the experience is a negative one.

And so, when I decided to try the egyptian magic cream, I went with my gut and bought the sample size of 3ml for £0.50.

Now, the very first thing I noticed about this cream is that it is NOT a cream but a BALM. A light yellow, greasy, smooth,  weird smelling balm that spreads onto skin with little application of heat or by slight rubbing. The surprising thing about this cult product is that it is made of ONLY six ingredients – Honey, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Royal Jelly, Bee pollen and Bee Propolis. So, that explains the strange smell.

I used the balm all over my face as well as some dry eczema spots on my elbows, only at night. The texture is quite greasy and hence not suitable for day time/summer time use. I’m happy to report that the balm did not irritate or dry out my sensitive, oily, acne prone and dryness prone skin. And, no breakouts either.

I found the 3 ml balm sample to be enough for a week’s usage. However, although my skin was quite happy with the product and I always woke up with soft, clear & moisturized skin, I was unable to find the legendary ‘magic’ in the balm um cream. As for the price, for a 118 ml tub it comes out to be £33.50 (INR 2981.41).

Also, the packaging is a tub which is quite unhygienic. Perhaps, a tube like Weleda skin food would be better? And, since the ingredients are few and 100% natural, I believed that the shelf life would be quite short. But, apparently, the shelf life of the balm is 3 years! Although, I’m not so sure about the effectiveness of the balm for those 3 years.

I think I’ll stick to trying more new creams/balms for now. Toodles..:)

The Natural Deodorant Co. – Gentle Deo Cream

The natural deodorant co.’s gentle deodorant cream is my first foray into the world of natural deodorants.

My earliest memory of deodorants includes those of Dove’s go fresh anti antiperspirant deodorant sprays during New Delhi’s sweltering summers. Super affordable, effective and available in a variety of scents, Dove is a great brand for first timers. Nike, Adidas, UCB, amongst others, are some other cool brands that make decent deos (in India).

Despite a promising start, my Dove mania finally ended in undergrad college when I noticed (too late) my under arm skin looking dark and irritated. My shirts seemed to be daily stained with strange white powder near the under arm region. After that, I just chucked all of my deos into the nearest bin.

For the past few years of my life, I’ve not used a single deodorant, again. The occasional perfume, yes. But, definitely no deodorant. With my recent awakening to natural and clean beauty products, but living in a country where the best of natural/clean deodorants are not easily available, I finally set my eyes on the natural deodorant co.’s gentle deodorant cream.

The natural deodorant co. currently makes three categories of deodorants viz. active, clean and gentle deodorant creams. While the active one is for the most demanding days, the clean version is perfect for daily use and my personal favourite – the gentle one, is for super sensitive skin.

I chose the fragrance free version of the gentle deo cream that comprises of Maranta Arundinacea Root (Arrowroot), Magnesium Oxide, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Bentonite (Clay). So basically, no baking powder.

I bought the 60ml pot for £10.00 from naturisimo with no duty/customs OR shipping fee. Have I mentioned how much I love naturisimo? Love love love this site. 🙂

The co. sells mini pots (15 ml) as well as samples (6 ml) so there’s a lot to choose from, for first timers.

Coming onto the product, as you can tell from the photo below, the texture is beautiful, if a little grainy. The cream, as promised, has no strong scent and can be worn with your favourite perfume!

Warming just a pea sized amount between my fingers and rubbing it into the skin under my arms, I’ve worn the deo cream during peak Delhi summers – think 46-47 degree Celsius and also while gymming, running and swimming.

The deo did absolutely nothing for the sweat. HOWever, at the end of the day, there was not a whiff of stink! I’ve tried this deo for the last 1 month now, and I really really like it. It definitely cannot replace any one’s antiperspirant, but it’s a brilliant deodorant considering the only six ingredient list. I would love to try the active as well as the clean range of deos from the natural deodorant co. After all, if the sensitive version is this good, the other two must be nothing short of amazing!

Odacite Clogged Pores (Jo+L) Serum Concentrate

Continuously on search for the serum to end all clogged pores other serums, I first came across Odacite on the Cult Beauty site, like wayyyy three years back. Since then, I’ve gone through SO many products (trial size! I’m not THAT rich.. yet), I’ve never actually had the opportunity to try out Odacite’s gazillion serums. Just kidding, there are ONLY 18. Whaaa???  Yes!

Wanting to try out the clogged pores serum but at the same time not wanting to shell out  $ 32.00 for a 5ml serum (I mean @#$%^&*&%# !!!!!!), I finally ended up buying just the sample size containing 1 ml (booooo) product for 1.95  GBP (yayyyyy) from one of my favorite sites – Naturisimo.

Naturisimo has recently shifted from box packaging to padded bubble envelopes. And my order was not at all heavy, so I faced absolutely no problems of product leakage/breakage. Perhaps, heavier orders or products encased in heavier glass material would face more of a challenge.

Anywho, back to my review, the Odacite serum sample packaging proved to be quite small yet chic. High points for that. You can have a gander at the pic below for a better idea.

So cute!!
IMG_6690

The oil serum is housed within a teensy light glass vial. The top is stoppered with a black plastic cap that you have to pull in the outwards direction to open.

The serum itself is quite thick and as you can see from the pic above, has a beautiful goldish color. It smells strongly of lavender which is understandable since that’s one of the major ingredients. You just need a 2-3 drops to cover your entire face.  I have quite an oily face and the serum absorbed fast leaving no tackiness or greasiness. As for the smell, within 30 minutes of application, there was almost none! And I really appreciate that, given my scent sensitive nose.

I have tried Argan, Almond and Rosehip oil as well as some serums containing other oils  in the past, and Odacite’s Jo+L serum is much lighter than any of those that absorbs at a faster rate, comparatively.

Leaving it to that, I settled down for my weekend movie time and then zzzzeed off to neverland. Excited to check the post effects, if any, I woke up early the next day to check out my skin. No greasiness, no new breakouts – yippee. Alas, no reduction in the existing few tiny spots. sighhhh. As I went about my morning chores getting ready for work, I raised one of my hands to absently scratch at my right cheek. Wait… what?!

I quickly ran to the nearest mirror to find that a small portion of my right cheek was slightly red. And really itchy. I swiftly grabbed my handy Bioderma micellar water and swiped a wet cotton at my right cheek. Aaaaaah, so much relief! Like when after a long hot run you stand under a cool shower. Whew.

So, all in all, in spite of a great beginning, the conclusion of this review turns out to be not that great. I’m REALLY happy that I didn’t buy the entire 5 ml bottle for $32! I personally believe that the lavender oil did not agree with my skin and will refrain from buying any products in future that contain this oil as a major ingredient. If any of you has been wanting to try one Odacite’s  numerous serums, I would suggest buying the sample first to check the waters before jumping headfirst into the serum pool.

PS – I still use Yuli’s cell perfecto PM every other night because its amazing. But that one is purely for addressing acne scars and not for clogged pores or blackheads.

 Redken Hair Cleansing Cream

Oh LORD this shampoo! Hair cleansing cream, xyz uvw …., whatever you may want to call it. It is THE shit. The Bees Knees – of all the shampoos I’ve tried in my life time (so far).

Here is Redken’s description of this shampoo:-

Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo clarifies and works to remove copper, iron, hard water minerals and styling product build-up on all hair types. Formulated with fruit acids to add shine, it purifies and refreshes hair.

That’s it. Redken’s description of this product is just so short, simple and precise. They make no fake promises of transforming your hair into that of Kate Moss or Sofia Vergara. Btw have you seen Sofia’s hair?! 😍 😍Forgive me, I digress. 😪

So, back to the product – the shampoo is a light creamy liquid that faintly smells like fruits. Just really subtle and not at all overpowering, the smell is really pleasant and an absolute delight.

When mixed with water, the shampoo foams extremely well to wash away all dirt, grime, oil, product build-up, hard water minerals, etc. U only need a small amount since it is quite concentrated. And after ALL that washing, my hair is left feeling squeaky clean yet insanely soft and silky. Now THAT is what I call a shampoo. No wonder this shampoo has such a strong fan following. It is that good! U have to try it to believe it!

Retailing at £14.00 for 300 ml, the shampoo is currently on sale at Feelunique for  £10.25. I’m sure there are countless other sites/ stores which have this product on sale during winter, so go grab yours now! 😄

Kérastase Reflection Bain Chroma Captive Colour Radiance Protecting Shampoo

When it comes to haircare, one high-end brand name that immediately pops up is Kérastase. It seems like the brand is almost EVERYwhere. Kérastase products have won a permanent place in almost every best haircare list.

So, of course when I bought the brand’s Reflection Bain Chroma Captive Colour Radiance Protecting Shampoo (zzzzz), I was clearly expecting a Tangled miracle. No, not where my hair gets tangled into a total mess. But that moment in the movie Tangled, when Rapunzel’s hair starts glowing as she sings the incantation: ‘Kérastase gleam and glow, let your power shine. Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.’ 😋

And did the clock really reverse? Did the shampoo ‘leave my hair feeling clean, soft and smooth, with a beautiful shine and silky to touch’ as promised?

Clean – not really. The colorless shampoo foams up gently when mixed with water. It seems to leave a light coating on the hair that cannot be washed off.

Soft and smooth – Yes. It does leave the hair soft and whatever coating is left on the hair appears to make it smoother.

Beautiful shine and silky to touch – Nope. I ‘ve seen better shine and silkiness with less expensive shampoos.

In addition to above, with repeated useage, my hair just kept getting more and more greasy and weighed down giving me dandruff.

All in all, this shampoo was a total failure and waste of money. Definitely not a rebuy.

London Haul

London How I love thee…

We were in London last weekend for an Epic wedding (the most Beautiful venue I have see to date!)  at Syon Park. We did all the touristy things from drinking in a roof bar at Covent Garden to Walking around Piccadilly to going on the London Eye (Sorry now “Coca-Cola” London Eye urggghhh).

I did however sneak in some time for a good old Boots visit (there are some Corporate giants I love)!

Presenting some of the things I purchased, am using and loving !

IMG_2123

Lets start With the Eyes

I purchased a “Da Vinci Professional Eyeliner Brush” you can find it on Amazon here. Absolutely Worth the Money ! – the eyeliner brush allows you great Control and flexibility (between thin and thick eyeliners), is very easy to wash and maintain and retains its shape well. I’ve been using it everyday since I got it !

Rimmel as usual was on offer and had a “buy one get the 2nd at 50% off ” offer on mascaras which I immediately snapped up (make-up is seriously expensive in Sweden and I generally shop on all my travels). I bought the Scandal Eyes Mascara and to me this is an average mascara because it tends to clump a lot if i reapply the Product more than once on my lashes. Still decent for the deal I got but I wouldn’t repurchase this one again. (see Product here).

Last but not least, the Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof in 57 Up and Brown was Another good addition to my Collection. The pencil itself is soft and glides smoothly on the eyelid. The staying Power is fairly good but I have a tendency to rub my Eyes while working so I need to test it more ! The pencil has good depth of colour and is a no brainer purchase IMHO.

Lets talk about skin baby !

This has been a cult Product and the reason why is pretty obvious. The Bourjois Radiance Reveal Healthy Mix Foundation here is a stunning Product that has a High value to Money ratio. The texture is light and creamy, it sits extremely well on dry skin and has great staying Power through the day (sans primer). I bought this in the shade Dark Beige and am convinced this is as good as the Kiehls BB Cream (which is far more expensive).

IMG_2124 IMG_2125

This is a Product that I will have on even for my civil wedding ceremony (yes its that good!).

Now to Lips and Cheeks 🙂

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick here had been trending on a lot of Beauty blogger websites and Feelunique.com was even out of stock of these Products for a while. All this added to my shopper’s frenzy and I picked up two of these to try- in the shades Hot Pepper and Beau Brun.

Here is a peek into the shades -Hot Pepper is on the Left and Beau Brun on the right !

IMG_2127

I have mixed feelings about this Product. Firstly, the smell is AWFUL! it has the most toxic plasticky smell which is nauseating. However, you don’t really smell it after you are done applying it. The shades are really Beautiful, kind of those “statement” colours you want to wear in the Autumn and Winter.

The staying Power is brilliant and lasts for a good 2-3 hours without touch-ups. The texture is a bit strange and takes some getting used to. I have been complimented a lot whenever I wear these ….if only the Company could do something about the smell…..

And last we come to Another Bourjois Product – a Beautiful pink blush – the Bourjois Cream Blush – Blush Exclusif. This Product has pigments that react With the pH levels of your skin and transforms into a unique “bespoke” blush. The winning feature of this is its easy applicability. The powder can be applied and moved around With your fingers and Changes into a Cream texture when applied. Its absolutely Beautiful and what great packaging ! Well done Bourjois!

Excuse my hairy paws 😛

All in all , I am one happy camper after this haul !

Loreal Sulfate free – Color Riche

Should you even bother ?

This Product for me is somewhere in the middle of the road.

I like it but I don’t love it – lets look at the pluses first. The price is cheap (versus other sulfate free shampoos in the European market), it is readily available across pharmacies, department stores and it doesn’t dry out my scalp nor produce excessive build-up.

Downside? Can’t say I like the smell too much but that’s purely personal. While it doesn’t dry out my hair – the hydration X-factor is missing (Think pureology).

My curls need some serious conditioning and this shampoo wasn’t really up to par (it could work for less frizzy hair types).

I am super inspired by searches on Pinterest and  was thinking of switching to the no-poo method (using a mix of baking soda and water). Will do a blog post on how that goes soon!
