Kan’s view:ย

After going through a really bad phase (10 month long!) of severe cystic acne and skin allergy, my face was finally spot free but sadly, riddled with atrophic scars. I’ve had acne since childhood but never ever did I get a single scar. ๐Ÿ˜ž And now I had more than I could count. And that too atrophic scars. Worse than my worst nightmare๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

Desperate to find a solution asap, during the early stage of my scars, I approached my dermatologist. He recommended either microneedling or a non-ablative laser or a combination of both. After many sleepless nights of researching both the options, I finally decided to go with the laser. The laser treatment was very intense and could only be done once every 1-2 months. For the period inbetween I needed another option, like a serum that could gently work on my atrophic scars and acne marks without adversely reacting with my sensitive skin.

While going through countless blogs in my search for the seemingly impossible, I stumbled upon Nephriticus and Beauty Idealist’s reviews of Yuli’s Cell Perfecto PM. ย  ย This is an oil serum (of 20 ingredients!) that helps in treating acne scars, hyperpigmentation, age spots and sun damage. I read many more reviews, all available on the internet, and knew that I’d finally found what I was looking for.

I’ve been patiently using the serum every night for the past three months and felt it was time to write a review!

This serum is to be ONLY used after you’ve got your acne under control. If you’re looking for a product that works superfast, shows its magic overnight and pulls the plug on your active acne, better look elsewhere.

This product requires time to work and needs to be used regularly. You can’t just take a few days off of it, then put it back into your regimen AND expect it to show results.

You need to use atleast 2-3 drops of the serum on the affected area every single night. For MONTHS. Like 3 months minimum. Maximum can be for as long as it takes, depending on your depth of scars. Maybe a year, or two. For me, it’s only been three months. One thing you have to be careful about is to shake that glass before use. Shake it just enough that when the product gets sucked into the dropper, it has some sediments in it. The shaking causes oxygenation and activation of the sediments. Without the sediments, the serum by itself is not going to work as it’s supposed to. Oh, and the shelf life of the product is 8 months. Yuli reportedly makes each product fresh, right after you order it!

The smell of this serum is very light and herbal and pleasantly sweet. It doesn’t linger. The one time when I accidently put it near my lip and licked it, it tasted really sweet! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Pls don’t drink this. It’s only to be used on too of your skin.

The serum being oil based is thicker than water-based serums and takes some time to absorb. The sediments disappear after massaging the serum into the skin. ย You’re supposed to use the serum alone but I’ve found it works well over my ACV thyme toner and under the Sesderma Azelac RU serum. I’ve had zilch adverse reaction to the product, so far. No dryness, inflammation, redness or itchiness!

In the past three months, I’ve seen slight lightening of my acne marks and decrease in the depth of my atrophic scars. They’re not completely gone, but then I never expected the serum to do that in three months. ๐Ÿ˜„โ˜๐ŸฝAlong with 5 laser sessions, this serum has worked wonders on the atrophic scars and marks.

I’m definitely going to continue using this serum and will report in another 3 months’ time.

Thanks for the interesting review. Since this post is almost a year old, can you give us an update? Have you continued to use the serum? Did it continue to improve your skin & reducing the depth of the scars? Thank you!

Dear Karen, I’ve been using the serum on alternate nights for almost 1 yr now. I’ve seen like 60-65% improvement in my scars which is a lot for me. My dermat was also amazed with the result. I believe I’ll continue using the serum for another year ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ค

Does it turn rancid after 6 months?

Dear Liz, I finally finished the 30 ml product last month and I had it for more than a year. I found no change in colour, odour or efficacy of the product for the entire period I used it. So, nope, it doesn’t turn rancid after 6 months.

Wow it sounds very nice. I love the ingredients. I was looking for something for the scars I still have on my cheeks. I managed to ebb the acne down for a while now, but the scars ….
Would this work as a part of a Korean-like skincare regime? – as in not a standalone product? I usually use 3-4 products on my face at night and since winter is coming up I need all the hydration I can get.

Well, based on my own experience as well the many other reviews I’ve read so far, I think the oil-based serum works best when coupled with an exfoliating toner/serum/cream underneath like retin-Avor biologique recherche lotion. If I use 2 drops per cheek, then the serum by itself is quite hydrating and I generally don’t need to use anything extra over it. I guess you could initially start with a similar routine and then perhaps gradually add in your choice of moisturiser for specific dry areas.

Well after I use a serum I like using a cream over it as well. It’s my way of imitating the whole sleeping mask thing(until I get one-but I made a deal with myself to first finish all the creams I have and only then buy a new one). I noticed that it seems to really seal the moisture in and I don’t have to worry that the serum will end up on my pillow. Don’t know if I explained that correctly ๐Ÿ˜€

      2. Poo&Kan says:

Ahahaha, you explained it perfectly well. ๐Ÿ˜„ I think it should be alright using a cream over the serum. G’luck!
